Six Quick Tips for Great Etsy Shop SEO

August 8, 2016 by Rebecca George Leave a Comment

Effective SEO (short for Search Engine Optimization) is crucial to success on Etsy. With a few easy pointers you can drive traffic to your shop, leading to increased views and sales. Let’s look at a few ways to improve your Etsy shop’s SEO.

Search Seo Online Internet Browsing Web Concept

Search Seo Online Internet Browsing Web Concept

1. Fill Every Tag Space

Make sure to use every available tag space for your listings. Tags help shoppers find your products on Etsy, so every one is an opportunity to have your items discovered in search. I also recommend including your shop name in the tags for a few of your listings, just in case someone searches for your business in the item field.

2. Think Seasonally

I like to keep seasonal items listed in my shop all year and just change out the tags. I’ll adjust the tags for better SEO a few months before a big holiday (like Halloween or Valentine’s Day), then after the holiday is over I’ll switch them to other keywords and phrases. Make sure to only use terms that apply to your items.

3. Read the Etsy Finds Emails

The emails Etsy regularly sends out will give you great ideas for keywords to use for your tags, item titles, and more. Pay extra attention to trends and seasonal themes, adjusting your listings accordingly.

4. Use Multi-Word Phrases

Since Etsy’s change to relevancy-based search instead of recency a few years ago, keywords are more important than ever. Your SEO will improve by using two and three word phrases in many of your tags (if they fit within the character limit). Also put them in your item titles to help your listings appear higher in search.

5. Check Your Shop Stats

The Etsy Shop Stats feature is an easy way to know if your SEO is working. Look at the keywords that shoppers are using to find your store and items, and use the ones that are coming up the most in more of your listings.

6. Review Your Listings

There’s always something I can work on in my Etsy shop- especially SEO. In the slow months I like to check all my listings to see where I can improve my tags, titles, and item descriptions. Also be sure to review your item listings for spelling and grammatical errors.

What other SEO tips do you have to bring more shoppers to your Etsy store?
