Secret To Success: Managing Stress Levels

October 5, 2012 by Maggie 1 Comment

We put a lot of pressure on ourselves as creative people and especially as small business owners. So much and so often that I hear people living in constant state of stress around the clock. As many of you know, this is extremely bad for you! Besides the obvious health implications, stress can also stifle your creativity, which is of course not what any of us want when we’re being suffocated by our creative business.

I know what you’re thinking “Yes, I know I should lower stress levels, but when would I find time to do that?” Good point. The only answer to that is you have to make the time. It may sound difficult, but it’s for your own good!

To help with some ideas for taking little bits of time to help de-stress your life I found this really fun article on 5 Ways to Stay Happy and Healthy as a Creative Business Owner. It talks about getting exercise, eating real meals, and reading for fun. These are all really simple and easy tricks you can do to help improve your stress levels and your sanity. Check it out!

How do you keep your life low-stress while running a creative business?

I work full-time and so creativity on the weekends is rushed and I often find myself batching my projects. This creates a backlog of photographing, editing and listing. I have found that I keep a lower stress level by making a to do list for the weekend and trying hard to stick to it. I list the 3 or 4 most important things I want to accomplish and check them off as I go. When I get those done and checked off then I can concentrate on a new project or whatever else is a little further down on the list. It is so true that stress stifles creativity as you worry about all that you are not doing, could be doing, should have done and on and on. Take a breath, realize you cannot do it all and love what you do.
