Promoting your Projects through Social Media

April 27, 2012 by Maggie

You can have the best product in the world, but if no one knows about it, you’re going to be sitting with unsold product stacking up! Part of selling your work online is promoting your product and one of the best ways is to use free social media.

Once your online store is open you’ll have to promote it. Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Blogs) is one of the best ways to advertise your store. You can create a Facebook page and a Twitter account in your business name. If you think that the work is over, you are mistaken. Just like all retailers you need to get the word out that your store is open and you need to constantly send out promotions to keep your established customers coming back and to reach out to new potential customers.

You will have a bit of a challenge with using social media. Because so many individuals and business blast the web round the clock, you need to make sure you personalize your message including engaging the audience to interact and be a part of your promotion through re-tweeting (your friends send out your tweet to their friends, expanding your audience) and Facebook sharing (again, your friends are sharing your post with their circle of friends).

Blatant ads rarely work. Most of us just breeze over posts like “Buy my new necklace – it’s purple”. That same message could be more engaging by posting it like this “What do you think of my purple necklace? It could be part of any outfit!” Social media works when you make it a soft sell rather than a hard sell. One is inviting your audience to come be a part of your day while the other is like a bullhorn blowing too close to your ear. Keep it lively. Keep it interesting.
