You’ve been dreaming of owning a handmade stationary business all of your life, but somehow college, your first job, getting married, your second job, parenthood, and a whole slew of life-related messiness got in the way. It’s so easy to look back at your oldest dreams across the valley of your everyday life and think they’re too far away. This is never the case! The products you create have value and so do your ideas. Learning how to motivate yourself is the first step to success, and we’ve got some ideas we want to share with you.
1. Spend Some Time Living in That Head Space Again
Grab a pen and paper and jot down your plans the way you used to while sitting in a coffee shop on your college campus. Heck, if you have to, go lay in the sun in some grassy patch and pretend you’re on the quad! Do whatever it takes to make your dreams feel as exciting, innovative, and sparkly as they used to.
2. Don’t be Afraid to Ask Advice
It’s easy to feel self-conscious when you’re starting something later than you planned to. You might feel like everyone around you has been at it for years, and that you’ll seem foolish starting from square one. First of all, ERASE those thoughts from your mind. Do you want to know how most people feel when they see someone else following their dreams? Jealous, inspired, or both. You are doing something that will make you very happy. You have every reason to stride up to someone already who’s “in the biz,” and ask your questions with gusto.
3. Adopt a “Leap of Faith” Mentality
Don’t be the person wishing you’d spent less time worrying about bills on their deathbed. You have one life to live, and if you have the means at this time to take a leap and try something that will make you feel fulfilled, DO. IT. Don’t deprive yourself of the opportunity to be creative and share your talents with the people around you. It can be a really beautiful exchange.
