So you want to participate in a craft fair, that’s great! Now comes the bigger question, how do you find a fair to participate in? There are a couple of factors to you’ll need to consider while you’re looking for craft fairs. First, if you’re willing to travel or only want to stay locally. Second, how much of a fee you want to pay to participate. Third, which craft fairs would be best for your products.
There are a lot of ways to find craft fairs, trade shows, and art fairs. If you’re looking for something local, check out some of these websites:
- Craft Master News
- Stall Finder
- Craft Lister
- Festival Net
- Art Fair Calendar
- The Indie Craft Show Directory
- Fairs and Festivals
- Craft Mafia
All of these sites feature lists of upcoming craft shows, art fairs, and trade shows. Many of them break it down to region or state, making it easier to find local shows. A lot of them will also have listing for flea markets and antique shows, so pay attention to the ones you choose. After you’ve found a few you’re interested in, make sure to check out the fair’s website. You’ll need to do this anyway to sign up, but you’ll want to make sure it’s a legitimate fair. A few things to consider when picking a show:
- Is it well advertised? – Finding out where they’re advertised and how much they’ve advertised will give you a good indication as to how many people will show up and what they’ll be looking for.
- How many stalls will there be? – Take a look at how many stalls they have and how many of those sell a similar craft to yours.
- How well did it do last year? – If it’s an annual event see if there’s any indication of how many people came through last year so you can anticipate how many people will be attending.
When you’re attending a craft fair, network with artists that sell similar crafts and see where they go. There’s probably at least one that you may not have hear of, and they can also help weed out shows that aren’t good.
Another good source are Etsy forums, a lot of people who sell on Etsy also attend craft fairs, and if you poke around you’ll probably find threads full of craft fair suggestions.
If you’re looking to get out of your local market and attend some of the bigger shows, then take a look at some of these shows.
Several of the same sites you use to find local shows also list out big shows.
