How To Create A Readership

May 23, 2012 by Maggie

One of the best parts about being a blogger is having a readership. Your “readership” is the group of people that regularly read your blog.

Building a large following of regular readers will take a little bit of time. Here are some tips to help you get there:

Write On Topic – Write about the topics your readers want to know about. For example, if you regularly post about sewing patterns and tutorials, your readers would be very confused if you suddenly started writing about motorcycle repair, and they would most likely stop visiting your blog.

If you don’t know what your readers want to know about, take a look at your statistics. Look at your ten most popular posts – this will tell you what your readers have liked the most on your blog, and you can use it as a guide for coming up with future blog post topics.

Post Regularly – It is very important to post regularly. This gives your readers something to come back for. If your posts are very few and far between, people won’t waste their time looking for new posts.

Be Active On Social Media – Being active on social media allows you to interact with people and introduce your blog to them. The more people you know, and are friendly with, the more people who will want to check out your blog. And remember to put the link to your blog in your profile, and don’t be afraid to link to new blog posts via pins, tweets, and status updates.

Comment On Other Blogs – Another way to introduce new people to your blog is by commenting on other people’s blogs. You don’t want to spam anyone’s blog, of course, so make sure your comment fits the post.

For example, if you recently wrote a post with tips on making birthday party decorations, do some Google searches to find some other posts with birthday party tips. Leave a comment on these posts, giving the author genuine feedback or compliments. At the end of the comment, you can say that you have some decorating tips and provide the link to your post with the decoration tips.

Using these methods, you should start to see an increase in the amount of readers that come back, time and time again, to your blog.

Have you had any success building a readership? Do you have any tips to add?
