Without a doubt, jewelry is one of the most popular items to sell at a craft fair. I have a couple of theories as to why:
- Each piece is unique. While going to a department store and finding the most popular and trendy piece is fun, you’re bound to run into someone with that same necklace. At a craft fair, jewelry booths are trendy in a different way. People are looking for unique gifts, personalized fine jewelry, and that one-of-a-kind feeling that you can only get when someone crafts something by hand.
- Specialty gems and metalwork are not easily copied and reproduced. I always admire the craftsmanship of a piece of jewelry and I am more drawn to purchase a piece if I know that I myself could not make my own just by going to the craft store down the road.
- Everyone wears jewelry. Okay, not everyone, but people have been wearing jewelry for centuries. It’s an expression of style, individuality, and personality. People like to show off their one-and-only style by wearing handmade jewelry.
There may be more scientific reasons, but I like my theories. What do you think?

To display my earrings I use a easel used to display art to support a window screen that I modified with wire instead of the screen. I also use a double sided metal air filter for your furnace with tree ornament hangers for earrings. All items were found at the thrift store or the handyman junk yard.
To display my coin necklaces I use black metal garden trellises. They show off the length and coins well. I have venders ask me where I got them all the time and tell them Hobby Lobby. Be creative …..
First week of the month people move in or out of the apartment complex. I saw 2 killer drawers with nice brass handles. Didn’t know what they would become then it hit me, a jewelry display case. Set the drawers on their sides and butted the top back of them together. With 2 nice brass hinges and some black velvet lining the inside it is nice. And when I close the front the handles are like barn doors, pull them apart and you have a LOT of room for long necklaces, etc. And the way I put them together the front of the piece is angular rather than a flat case, giving it some flair. When it is closed it is so unique it is attractive and eye catching from a distance. Total cost, $3.20 (set of brass hinges) and about 20 minutes of my time!
Good work. I also use the different type of jewelry display cases in my jewelry store. It is a good practice to use jewelry display cases.
