If you are a one-person business, you know how precious your time can be. It can get overwhelming looking at the massive pile of work sitting in front you, knowing you’re the only one who’s going to get it done. Stop all the anxiety that’s about to overtake you. Take a deep breath and check out some of the time-saving tips.
1. Make a list and stick to it. In stressful times, it’s always good to make a list of everything that needs to get done. Sometimes you can build it up in your head and psyche yourself out. Once you’ve written your list, prioritize it. Decide what needs to get done immediately and what can hold off till later. Once you have it lying out in front of you, you might just surprise yourself in realizing you can handle everything.
2. Cut out the small stuff. If it’s not necessary, then why do it? When you’ve got a million things on your plate, cutting out the unnecessary items is essential. If it doesn’t need to be done now, then cut it out. Your business is like a car – you shouldn’t spend time and money adding fancy gadgets in it if you need maintenance on your engine or transmission.
3. Make yourself a schedule. If you’re working from home, it can be difficult to make yourself sit there and do work when the TV’s beckoning you. Find the time that you are most productive and schedule around that. Giving yourself a schedule will help you be productive, not to mention it will keep you organized.
4. Outsource work when you can. If you’ve got some cash, then outsource the busy work. Hire someone to take care of the easy things that take time, like adding price tags to your products. It doesn’t have to be full time, you could just bring someone in when it’s hectic, like before a craft fair or the holiday season. You can also use dashboard programs to take care of your social media. Although social media is important, the time you spend on it every day can add up. Let’s be honest, sometimes we end up getting caught up in things that are not work related either. To avoid this, use something like Hootsuite to schedule and release your tweets and Facebook posts.
5. Take a break. No, seriously. Getting burnt out will not help your business at all. Nor will skipping lunch and working 15 hours straight. Schedule some free time. Take a break during the day, take a lunch, surf the web for 15 minutes, however you choose to use that free time, just take it. It’s important to make time to de-stress.
