Craft Store Resources: Jewelry Making

August 9, 2012 by Maggie 37 Comments

When it comes to buying supplies for making your products, I always have a hard time connecting the ideas I have  in my head and finding affordable supplies to make them. Local craft stores are my favorite to shop at, but unfortunately they do have a limited selection. Luckily the internet has made it easy to buy all the craft supplies of your dreams! I thought it might be nice to have round ups by craft genre of good places to buy craft supplies online. I’m starting off with jewelry because I love making jewelry so I’m more familiar with the sites. If you have any other jewelry making supply store to add that aren’t on this list, please do in the comments!

List of Jewelry Making Supply Sellers Online

Firemountain Gems

Beadaholique

Aunties Beads

Rio Grande

Metalliferous

Artbeads

Thunderbird Supply Company

Rings and Things

Wire Sulpture

House of Gems

Ornamentea

CutRateCrafts

Vintage Jewelry Supplies

Those are just some that I like to browse through. What are your favorite online jewelry making suppliers?

If you are on FaceBook, there are tons of jewelry destash groups, where all they sell are the parts and pieces for making jewelry. Some people selling here do it for their living, but there are many who are getting out of making jewelry and are looking to unload their supplies. You can get some great deals. One such place, my favorite, is at http://www.facebook.com/groups/192196407565502/. I don’t run or admin this group…I just love shopping there. 🙂

For me, it’s important to buy Made in USA jewelry findings. The quality is much better than Made in China, and I feel good about keeping my money in our country. B’Sue’s Boutique offers many findings from Made in USA suppliers.

I really like Antelope Beads (www.antelopebeads.com) for supplies to make leather and cork bracelets. For Kumihimo supplies go to What a Knit (www.whataknit.com). Both of these on-line stores have great ideas and tips too. Plus, you can’t beat the service!

B’Sue Boutiques is by far the best site for American made products. There vast supply has everything you could ever want and if you want to try something new Brenda Sue does a video once a week to showcase her products and show you how to use them to make beautiful jewelry.

Etsy also sells supplies/tools as well as finished goods, ao maybe that would work as a source.

Does anyone know where I can find parts to make my angel pins and slides?
I need wings, gowns, bows, I like bright silver and bright gold.
I also like to use filigree butterflies for the angel wings.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Fire Mountain would be a great place to find most of these items. However for gowns, most people just use upside down cone or bell shaped beads.

I can’t believe you don’t have Shipwreck Beads on your list. They are bigger than all of those companies. They don’t do catalogs because they don’t want to cut down trees needlessly. You walk into their store and you will spend HOURS. The place is so big that it’s in an industrial park. Tons of unique stuff and all of the basics that you could ever want. This is MY go to place.

All of you are so knowledgeable:) Maybe you can help me with my search for various bead styles (wood beads, simple metal tube beads, metal buddha head beads, inexpensive turquoise looking beads, etc.) I’m looking for BEAD SUPPLIERS for an item I intend to manufacture in the USA that is not a piece of jewelry. I am open to buying beads from Asia to receive the best price since we are looking to buy over 2500 beads per style and 10-15 styles of beads. I need a company that I can reorder the beads on a frequent basis. Any recommendations would be so much appreciated.

I enjoy shopping Lima Beads — they have daily (and every-five-minutes!) specials, plus fun contests (easter egg hunt, crossword puzzle) every few months.
