3 Mistakes I made When I Started My Business

July 13, 2016 by Einat Kessler

Today I want to share with you the 3 Mistakes I made When I Started My Business. If you’re starting a business you are bound to make mistakes. If your business is online even more so because of the fast changing pace of the virtual business world. Everything is changing so quickly and it’s hard to keep up but if you avoid these 3 mistakes your life will be much easier I promise!

3 Mistakes I made When I Started My Business

Don’t do everything

When you are just starting you want to be everywhere, that’s what I tried to do. You want to have presence in all the social media sites, have a YouTube channel, Run a blog and have an Etsy shop. It’s an admirable cause but it’s impossible. Unless you have more than 24 hours a day, more than two hands and you spend all your time on promoting your business it can’t be done. AND it shouldn’t. So how do you know where to be? It’s easy, you have to pick. But pick smartly. It mainly depends on your target audience. If you’re looking to catch the eyes of young people go to Snapchat or twitter but an older crowd is on Facebook. If you want to show photos of your artwork go to Pinterest or Instagram but if you want to teach how to create an artwork go to YouTube. Pick 2-3 places and invest there. Other than my website, which includes my blog, I have a YouTube channel, a Facebook page which I invest in the most. I’m also on Instagram and Pinterest but not daily and only if I have the time.

Learn, Learn and Learn some more

When I started I thought I knew everything I needed to know to run an online business. But I soon realized I don’t but i was willing to learn! Every Time you want to do something and have no idea how look for information on it and learn how. The internet is an abundant source of information and you can find out just about everything about everything. You can ask fir help in groups, but before you do that make sure to first Google your question first so your question won’t be too general. If you need take a class or a course. At some point people and even the internet can’t provide you with all your answers and you’ll have to pay a little to find out what you need.

Don’t take things personally

This was something that was difficult for me. It was hard to adopt a business like mindset and not take things personally. However if you want to make good business decisions you need to think from your head and not your heart. I know it’s sounds like a cliche but it’s true. Be true to yourself but don’t pass out on opportunities because you were hurt or ignored. You are not looking for friends you are looking for business.

I got the same advice when I started and I still made mistakes. The most important thing is to keep going and learn from experience.

When she was a young girl Einat used to sit on the carpet at her grandparents’ house with a huge scrapbook on her knees looking through it with amazement. These albums, created from scratch by her grandfather took her imagination to faraway places and sparked her creativity years later. When her first son was born her grandfather suggested she would create a scrapbook to document his life. Einat was bit by the scrapbooking bug and the rest is history.
Today Einat is a versatile designer who owns her own business. She dabbles in various crafts from scrapbooking and altered art to mixed media and 3D paper crafts. She teaches online classes and design for several companies. She shares her projects and designs on her blog, FB page and very successful YouTube channel.
